Show Us Your Pins Online Exhibition with JMGQ

With 2020 meaning many in person exhibitions were cancelled, the Jewellery and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland organised some online exhibitions for members.

I throughly enjoyed these themed projects as it gave me an opportunity to get into my workshop and have a play.  My most favourite thing to do!  I love the challenges of new designs, problem solving and the endless ideas that flow from it!

There were three themes I participated in, this was the first in June 2020.  Scroll down for links to the two other pieces I made for the other Exhibitions.

"Show us your pins" was the title for the first one.

I was stuck for an idea for this one, not wanting to do the same standard pin back I normally use on my pieces, instead wanting to push my design skills.

I ended up finding inspiration in a book (Celts:Art and Identity) of a Celtic Exhibition I visited at the National Museum in Scotland that I loved.  Celts used to fasten their cloaks with a simple and elegant circle and pin, called a Pennannular brooch.

For the design, I turned to a new collection I have been developing with minimal looping shapes, inspired by my paisley designs.

You can see the other brooches members made in the gallery section of the JMGQ website, under "Show Us Your Pins".

I also made pieces for two more of their online Exhibitions, click on the links to see more of the process of making the pieces.
