One of the most well know gemstones, Red Ruby.

Ruby is the birthstone for July.  It is also the gemstone associated with 40th wedding anniversaries.

Star Ruby

Silk inclusions within the hexagonal crystal structure cause the beautiful and magical 6 ray star reflection under a single light source.

Ruby is one of the hardest gemstones, with a hardness of 9.

Ruby is the same variety of mineral as Sapphire - Corundum.  Only Red Corundum can be Ruby, the red colour coming from trace elements of Chromium.  The most desired colour is pure red with a hint of blue.
